Do you use a pre-filled injection pen? Did you know these can be recycled?

PenCycle is a recycling scheme run by Novo Nordisk.

Novo Nordisk supplies around 25 million pre-filled injection pens in the UK market every year as diabetes and weight management medicines, which include:

• Wegovy®
• Ozempic®
• Saxenda ®
• Tresiba®
• Levemir®
• NovoRapid®
• Fiasp®
• NovoMix®
• Xultophy®

It’s estimated that these pre-filled injection pens alone generate around 400 tonnes of plastic waste in a year. To combat the issue of plastic waste, our surgery is hoping to raise awareness and promote the Novo Nordisk PenCycle initiative to recycle these used injection pens.

You can post empty pens directly to Novo Nordisk via a dedicated returns box, which can be ordered online free-of-charge or collected from the surgery. Once the box is full, you can send it off by freepost.
