Emotional Wellbeing Service

What is the Emotional Wellbeing Service?

Everyone experiences changes to their mental health over the course of their life and it’s normal to need some support.

  • Short-term support (1 to 6 sessions)
  • Delivered in your GP practice
  • Face to face, over the phone, or by video

Can I be referred?

Your GP (or another clinician) can refer you to this service.

We will accept patients who are:

  • Over 18 years old
  • Experiencing common mental health problems, who have tried Health in Mind or other services but are still struggling with, for example, anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement
  • Experiencing complex mental health problems (like schizophrenia, bipolar, and complex emotional relational needs)
  • Wanting to work with social prescribers but need mental health support first
  • Experiencing issues around alcohol/ substance misuse and cannot access Health in Mind (if the main issue is the misuse, then signposting to specialist services will be given)
  • Don’t meet the criteria for IAPT or secondary services

We cannot accept referrals where:

  • The patient is under 18 years old
  • There is an urgent need or where the patient is in crisis
  • Secondary mental support is already being accessed e.g., private therapy/ counselling, ATS, Health in Mind etc.
  • Specialised or specific clinical intervention is required (e.g., disordered eating, single-incident trauma)
  • The main presenting need is alcohol/substance misuse
  • There are medication issues to be resolved
  • The main presenting need is linked to a learning disability, brain damage or dementia.

Who will see me in my appointment?

You will have an appointment with either the:

A non-clinical support worker who will offer an assessment, coaching and motivational support, advice, information/ signposting and can make referrals for you to other services.
